Granted my ECU is already flashed so alot of the normal things you want done with an ECU flash are already done. I was leaning towards the tune-to-ECU route, but I just found a lightly used PCV for $150 for my bike, which means I can get that installed and dyno tuned for cheaper than doing a dyno tune-to-ECU.

Either way, the bike needs to get on a dyno to properly get the AFR dialed in with this thin head gasket. Most shops will dyno tune a bike for less than $300 if you have a Power Commander installed, but if you want it dyno tuned to ECU, then fewer shops have the tools to do it and it's about twice the price.
#ECU FLASH VS POWER COMMANDER PC#
PC can only alter a few fuel parameters, flash can alter fuel maps per gear, secondary throttle valves, disable O2 from altering. No matter the bike ecu flash will always yield better results and typically for around the same cost sometimes less. For example, it can make changes to your ignition timing, electronic throttle, adjustable velocity stacks, disable emissions systems, change your idle, redline, and even calibrate your speedo for your sprockets. I have two options - dyno tune directly to ECU, which is around $600 (that's alot of cash for me), or get a Power Commander V and THEN have it dyno tuned to the PCV. 2020 Kawasaki Vulcan S, 2020 Kawasaki Z900. The ECU flash is going to do things that a power commander simply doesnt do. I've been wanting to get the bike dyno tuned to get the most HP out of it with the thin head gasket. Bike has been running great for 2500+ miles with the new head gasket. Since I had the flash done, I installed a thinner head gasket for more compression. The bike already has a 2 wheel dyno works ECU flash.

Only a full custom map covers fuelling, a quick flash with any map is irrelevant unless it has been tailored specifically to your bike that means running the bike on a rolling road as is in the configuration to be ran therefore differing exhaust configurations require different mapping tables (we always offer baffle in/out maps along with wet maps). Most commonly asked question for a tuner, “do i need a power commander if I get an ECU flash?”
